Free State Festival: Best of the Fest Screening

The Event:      View award-winning short films from the Lawrence Art Center's Free State Festival, a week-long celebration of film, music, art and ideas in the heart of Lawrence, KS. Rated PG-13 View award-winning short films from he Lawrence Arts Center’s Free State Festival, a week long celebration of film, music, art & ideas in the heart of downtown Lawrence’s 9th Street Corridor. Now in it’s fifth year, the Free State Festival is an interdisciplinary festival featuring an international slate of more than 10 feature films, 40 shorts, outdoor concerts, stage performances, outdoor digital media installations, and panel discussions. Last year’s festival attracted approximately 12,000 audience members, sold out film screenings, lively discussions and packed outdoor performances. Rated PG-13 The film lineup: Stumped - 12 min - Documentary - Best Short Film Award Winner - directed by Robin Berghaus When a filmmaker suddenly becomes a quadrilateral amputee, he adapts to a world he never could have imagined, and finds a new creative outlet in stand-up comedy. Somewhere Between Freedom and Protection, KS - 20 min - Drama - Audience Award Winner - directed by Patrick Clement A young girl must choose between her ailing grandmother and a scholarship that will take her away from the small town her family founded. Black Rock Creek - Best Youth Film - 5min - Drama - directed by Malone Lumarda A young girl takes a mystical walk along beautiful Black Rock Creek Harbinger - Comedy - 13min - directed by MacGregor Greenlee A professional 'Bad News Bearer' must face the hardships of his job when the name of someone he knows comes up in his deliveries.
