Radio Kansas Arts Calendar

Date: September 25, 2015 to September 27, 2015, 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
Venue: Lucas Area Community Theater - 116 South Main
Sponsor: Grassroots Art Center

The Event:      LID OFF FILM FESTIVAL Lucas, Kansas Friday September 25th-27th - The Grassroots Art Center along with Peter Max Lawrence present the newly established 3 day "Lid Off Film Festival". The event will feature several in-and-out-of-state "grassroots" films with each festival day programming featuring two 90 minute film programs that will be followed by a filmmaker panel and a Q&A period for the audience to engage. There will be an opening and closing reception as well as special screenings and art exhibitions around town with details to be announced soon. The majority of programming will take place at the Lucas Area Community Theater 116 S. Main Street. Additional activities include self-taught artist Mri-Pilar’s "Tin Liddies" workshop on Saturday the 26th, and the Brooke Wallace exhibit New Cambria at the Grassroots Art Center showcasing her duct tape creations. Keeping with an intention of local accessibility the admission will be $10 per-day or $25 for the 3 day festival. Donations of larger amounts are most welcome as Lucas was recently hit by a severe hail and wind storm during which all area businesses and exhibitions spaces suffered mild to severe roof and window damages. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: 1) The LID OFF FILM FESTIVAL is still open to submissions and although the call is international we are specifically looking for quality under viewed films of any year with a specific interest in regional films (Defined as: Kansas City Area to Omaha to Denver to Oklahoma City and back to KC again) all of genres. Please see the website for entry-form and more information. There is no Entry Fee for submission. 2) A component of the festival will be a youth and adult sectioned 90 second video competition to be viewed by the festival audience. It is anticipated that through various grant funding sources that all participating youth and adults who submitted a video will have reduced admission costs to the larger three day festival and will be invited to the opening reception. For registration forms and more information check out www.grassrootsart.net and click on Lid Off icon on home page or paperwasterpress.com/lidofffilmfestival.html . Interested participants can also upload videos to YouTube or Vimeo and send the link at lidofffilmfestival@gmail.com with the subject line “90 SECOND LID OFF.” CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: We are seeking volunteers of all ages to help with a variety of tasks both the week before, during and following the festival. All volunteers will receive free and discounted admission based on the time worked. Please email lidofffilmfestival@gmail.com with the subject “Volunteer for LID OFF.”
