The Fitzgerald Theater
We've been glad to be your station each week for Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion (PHC). We're the station that brought the show to the Kansas State Fair a few years back, and we hope you were in the audience! After years of steady listener response, financial support for our weekly broadcasts has waned in recent years. We think the show is as popular as ever, but Mr. Keillor's talk of retirement has led people to believe that the show would not be available for the duration of their year's pledge.
Since we obviously have no control over Mr. Keillor's availability, we are asking all fans of PHC to pledge generously as Sustaining Members. Such a membership is an ongoing monthly commitment of $10 per month or more, but you may cancel at any time! You either get PHC or you get to keep your money! Radio Kansas will assume the risk. It's the best offer we can make in this important effort to keep the show if that's what you want.
In addition to this effort behind the scenes, we've revitalized our on-air commitment, not only bringing you the show twice each weekend, but also presenting Mr. Keillor's Writer's Almanac feature weekdays at 9 a.m. In addition, we also present American Public Media's other great show from the Fitzgerald Theatre, Wits Sundays at noon. With Wits as a warm-up for our re-broadcast, it's as close as you'll ever get to three hours of A Prairie Home Companion!
In our effort to present PHC at the best possible time for you to listen, we now broadcast Saturday's edition from 6 to 8 p.m. This is the same local time as the show's successful broadcasts on the east coast. We know our listeners are busy and want to do our best to present the show at the most convenient time. Our re-broadcast Sunday afternoons from 1 to 3 gives us an additional opportunity to serve you and - frankly - a critical second opportunity each fundraiser to assess community interest. Let us know which broadcast suits your needs, and we'll do our best to keep it available with your help!
