Danielle Pia

I began my career in radio at a small market station in Big Bear City, California after winning my battle with chronic myeloid leukemia.  When I moved to Kansas in 2008, I sought out what I considered to be the most interesting radio station in town.

Except for a short stint in East Texas when I was a little girl, I’ve spent most of my life in Southern California.  I was born in San Diego.  I went to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where I majored in Theatre (we spell it with the snooty, English ‘re’) and then lived for 7 years in the mountains of Big Bear.  While I do sometimes miss the ocean, I am thankful to be living near my family in this peaceful and beautiful place.

Some of my other interests include writing and performing poetry, acting, and photography.  I’ve joined Mark Simmons’ science fiction writer’s group and I would love to complete a novel.  While I have no musical talent to speak of, I have always been drawn to music.  Almost all of my friends are musicians, a couple of whom have songs on the Nightcrossings playlist.  I am proud to be a part of such a unique and innovative program and I hope to stay at Radio Kansas for quite some time.

My favorite thing about Nightcrossings is the influence it’s had on area artists.  The show has been on for well over 20 years so some Kansas musicians have literally grown up listening.  Because of the inspiration Nightcrossings has provided, we are able to share with you – both over the air and online – a unique music mix not available anywhere else in world.
